In comfortable and friendly practice rooms, I dedicate a lot of time to your clinical complaints, concerns and questions. Targeted examination planning and state-of-the-art equipment with high-resolution images enable precise clarification with the possibility of rapid and efficient treatment.
Professional commitment and regular specialist training are a matter of course for me and are incorporated into my daily work. The targeted indication and examination planning can be realised from the spectrum of both specialist disciplines in order to avoid unnecessary multiple examinations. 6 questions for specialist Dr Sven Walter
During my medical studies, I developed a particular enthusiasm for anatomy and functional relationships as well as a pronounced enjoyment of analytical thinking, which I am now able to experience again and again as a radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist.
In the age of hybrid imaging, the two disciplines of radiology and nuclear medicine complement each other immensely. What is fascinating here is the constant progress that is constantly opening up new professional perspectives and possibilities.
As a radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist, I very much welcome the fact that I can continue to focus on all the other specialist disciplines in medicine, be a part of them in terms of imaging and thus make a valuable contribution to patients and colleagues.
An extremely formative moment for me right at the beginning of my studies was the introductory lecture by emeritus professor of anatomy Johannes W. Rohen at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. As a famous anatomist and scientist, Goetheanist and anthroposophist, he left a lasting impression on us students. It was thanks to him that "Functional Human Anatomy" was initially taught in the first semester. This way of looking at and approaching things by scrutinising functional relationships has had a fundamental impact on me and continues to influence my work today.
The option of online appointments is certainly a proven aid for organising a practice. This is a modern service that allows patients to schedule an appointment with the doctor of their choice at any time and in an uncomplicated manner.
Current and future research in the field of "artificial intelligence" will have a further influence, particularly in medical imaging, and offer new possibilities and optimisation potential.
I greatly appreciate the trust my patients place in me. The trusting doctor-patient dialogue with the provision of all clinically relevant information and preliminary examinations enables me to determine the indication with targeted and optimal examination planning.
While I was working at the Proton Therapy Centre in Munich, an 18-year-old young woman was treated for a chordoma (rare tumour) at the base of her skull. When the patient first presented at the centre - after a history of repeated previous operations abroad - my department updated the MRI and CT imaging for treatment planning. A massive residual tumour with walling and displacement of the brain stem, particularly at the level of the respiratory centre, was a cause for concern. Our interdisciplinary collaboration made it possible for the chordoma to be removed as far as possible in two further operations by a specialist and for the therapy to be successfully completed with proton radiotherapy. A result that could not have been better hoped for or wished for the patient. This example showed me impressively what specialised medicine in interdisciplinary cooperation can achieve for patients. Precise, high-resolution imaging is a crucial tool in this regard.
A balanced and healthy lifestyle can help to prevent illness and grow old in good health. Depending on the risk profile, targeted clinical and imaging screening, e.g. MRI of the whole body, can also offer the opportunity to recognise pathological changes at an early stage and treat them successfully. In the case of a manifest disease, e.g. a malignant tumour, therapy monitoring and sufficient aftercare are essential. A targeted examination can make a valuable contribution here.
